Merced is an accomplished musician, with talents in guitar, percussion, bongos , conga and djembe. Unifying audiences with the nature of music and percussion, he brings the rhythm of life into their world and their relationship with it.

“As a young man, I’d get totally involved listening to and playing drums in the barrio. Drumming has helped me to conquer fear, but remain calm, confident and trusting. It has brought me closer to elements of this world and his creations especially mankind. It draws me nearer to my creator and reminds me of peace gift to all.”

Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Music is in the roots of his family. Juan Luis has been playing as a professional musician for over 2 decades. His distinguished sound has been applauded at a variety of different venues.

His professional musical career began when he move to Grand Rapids, Michigan and joined the Blue Nebula Fusion Jazz as a percussionist. In West Michigan he also played with the bands Jah Kings – Reggae Group, La Playa Latin Jazz and Group Siguaraya originally from Havana, Cuba.

Currently in Asheville, North Carolina, Juan Luis plays with Cabo Verde - Flamenco Jazz Fusion, Eta Carina, Nuevo Montuno and Ahora Si group. Also he is working with his program The Oricha Drums & Drumming and Percussion Program providing Yoga classes with Sun Salutation, Reflexology and Drumming.
